Alexa Yarnell
MS, LCPC, PMH-C, CPD
I graduated from Montana State University (MSU) Bozeman with a Master of Science degree in Health and Human Development-Mental Health Counseling. I was a post-master's intern at Counseling and Psychological Services at MSU and the Eating Disorder Center of Montana (EDCMT). I continued to work as a primary therapist at EDCMT until 2019, when I decided to start my private practice. I am licensed to practice therapy and counseling in Montana and Wyoming.
In my private practice, I continue to work with folks who experience troubled relationships with food, eating, and body image. Therapy consists of assessment of troubling behaviors and thought patterns, assessment of other mood issues like anxiety or depression, creating structured challenges of rigid behaviors (with the support of a dietitian when necessary), implementation of coping strategies and mindfulness techniques to cope with thoughts and behaviors, and a deep dive into emotional experiences to uncover the driving forces and factors.
In May of 2020, during pandemic lockdown, I gave birth to my son and experienced postpartum depression (PPD) and dysphoric milk ejection reflex (D-MER), both of which I struggled through for 18 months. Through my challenges as a new mom with PPD and feeding challenges, I became interested in further educating myself about perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) through Postpartum Support International and Seleni Institute. I am certified in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) and am trained as a Certified Postpartum Doula (CPD) through Childbirth International. I have additional training through PSI on Perinatal Loss and hold space for acutely painful perinatal traumas in therapy.
My goal in founding Wellspring Counseling is to provide mental and emotional healing and recovery to any and all whom seek therapy through our practice. Additionally, I founded the practice to offer a clinical setting in which therapists-in-training can receive compassionate and thorough clinical supervision, aimed at increasing each therapist’s trust in themselves and the therapy process.
